A big welcome back to you all. Spring has sprung and summer term is here! We have an exciting term ahead of us.

We are kicking off the term with creative curriculum week, based around our topic of rainforests. This will be our focus for the first half term, and then we will be learning all about the Mayan Civilisation after half term. In English we will be reading The Jungle Book, and learning how to write information texts about rainforest animals, and persuasive pieces about saving the rainforests. Our science topic is Animals and their Habitats. We will be learning all about animals and where they make their homes, and finding some insects to study closely. Maths this term will start with place value and negative numbers, move onto the four operations, fractions, time, position and direction, and finally some work on statistics. We will be creating our own animations in computing and continuing our WOPs music sessions with Mr Johnson and Miss Smith. In RE, the children will be finding out about the mission of the church and belonging to the church. PE will include athletics and games. As you can see, we have lots of exciting learning lined up!

Spellings will be given out on Monday and tested on Friday. Please encourage the children to do lots of practice. Times tables follow the same pattern, and again, any help you can give the children with testing and encouraging them to learn their tables is invaluable. It really does make a difference to their progress in Maths.

Please do come and see me if you have any questions or anything you would like to discuss - Miss Richards.

It has been a busy term for Year 4! The children worked really hard on our poetry topic, coming up with some fantastic creations which they performed to the rest of the class. You can see a selection of them here.

We had a fantastic Mayan day last week, with a visit from Big Nose, who has close links with Mayan ancestors. The children learnt how to count in Mayan, became historians to decide on the uses for lots of different Mayan artefacts, and acted out the Mayan creation story, helped by Mrs Baron and Mrs Kerrigan as the Gods! We also tasted cocoa nibs, and learnt about the significance of the cocoa bean and chocolate for the Mayans.

The children have done some fantastic home learning this term. Well done!
